Pennsylvania: medical director for a addiction medicine / mat clinic

Physician holding either (a) 3 years' documented experience providing services to persons addicted to alcohol or other drugs, including ≥1 year treating narcotic addiction with a narcotic drug, (b) certification in addiction medicine by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, or (c) a certificate of added qualifications in addiction psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. An interim medical director not yet meeting these may serve up to 36 months while working toward qualification under an approved training plan.

• Assume responsibility for administering all medical services performed by the narcotic treatment program
• Supervise narcotic treatment physicians
• Oversee nursing-staff protocols for medication dispensing and administration

Applies to narcotic (opioid) treatment programs under 28 Pa. Code Ch. 715. Onsite physician services required at least 1 hour/week per 10 patients; a narcotic treatment physician must otherwise be available for consultation/verbal orders whenever the program is open. General (non-OTP) drug-and-alcohol treatment facilities under 28 Pa. Code Ch. 704 have no equivalent medical-director role — only a facility director, clinical supervisors, and counselors, plus an on-call physician requirement for inpatient detox specifically.
